The Woodland of Frick Park

This is a video dedicated to Frick Park, located in Pittsburgh, PA. Although Henry Clay Frick bequeathed the original 151 acres to the city in 1919, the park didn’t open until 1927 after additional land had been acquired. The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy has completed extensive ecological restoration work in Frick Park since its first capital project in 2000, the restoration of Reynolds Street gatehouse entrance. The Frick Environmental Center has been opened to the public in September 2016 and in 2018, it was certified as a Living Building. I was the writer, videographer, and editor of the film for Graduate School. When the footage was first taken, the tripod has only been used a handful of times. I had a camera cage to stabilize the footage throughout the park, but I should have practiced with the cage beforehand. I walked about 90% of the park and received permission to film inside the Frick Environmental Center. The original video didn’t have enough narration, which was fixed in the revision, but the mistake did remind me to pay more attention to the detailed description of what the video needed. The film has been shared with the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy who maintain the park and the Frick Environmental Center.  The best part of this film is the scenery. The day started to clear out and offer incredible light for the footage. If I were to do it again, I would take a little bit more time to film the inside of the Environmental Center. I wanted to be efficient, but there were many different angles I could have gotten if I took my time with the building.

OptiCom Consulting-Communications technology

Opticom provides consulting and agency services for all of their client’s communications technology needs. They have over 30 years of collective experience in all facets of Communications and they are ready to help businesses find the best and latest technology. They will also work with over 150 vendors to find their clients the best technology to suit their needs. Opticom recognizes that technology has made significant and lasting changes in the telecom landscape. I was the writer, videographer, and editor of the film. The idea of the film was to make a promo of their business to their future clients. This film was a challenge to think of creative b-roll footage. Opticom is a communications technology business, which means that most of what they do is online. They had an interesting office space, it was originally an attic space that they converted into their office. However, I had to think outside of the box to make the video interesting. I learned to take time to really detail out the video. The film also gave me the chance to collaborate with the ‘client’, Opticom Consulting. I was open with my struggle with the lack of b-roll opportunity and they offered a lot insight for their own company.  This video was shared with Opticom Consulting. The best part of the video is the b-roll footage of the office, their office was unique and provided a lot of color, even though some clips are a little unbalanced. If I were to do the video again, I would refilm that footage to balance out the color. I could bring in extra lightning to balance out some of the dark spots of the office because it has slanted walls.

Dietitian Devon

This video is a promo for Devon Kroesche as she gathers clientele for her to eventually become a freelance dietitian. When she was young, Devon developed an eating disorder by over counting calories and overcontrolling her sugars. She had become so malnourished as a vegetarian, that she became physically ill even just thinking of meat when she sought out help from her own dietitian. Throughout her struggle, she not only took her control back over her illness but has now dedicated her career to helping others do the same. She has inspired many with her dedication and has excelled as a Marketing Director & Registered Dietitian Nutritionist as Case Specific Nutrition. I was the videographer, writer, and editor for this film. I was able to practice the three-point light set up for her interview. Her apartment was very dark and old so space was limited. I was able to balance as much as I could in her kitchen because it had limited lighting except for the natural light that her glass screen door offered. This video was shared with Devon for her professional social media portfolio. The best footage of the film is her interview, I was really happy with the light from the dark apartment and I really enjoyed the color balance. If I could do the film over again, I would take more footage of her kitchen to offer more b-roll footage during the film. I would also take more time filming Shadyside.

Cyber Resilience

This is the first of 3 videos that will be completed for Opticom Consulting. During the pandemic, they added a new service to feature for their clients called Cyber Resilience. In this service, they will not only offer technology to help prevent cyber attacks but also offer to teach services to their IT departments to help protect themselves from hackers. In the new age of technology, there have been new ways that ‘bad guys’ have been able to enter someone’s business and steal ‘PII’ or personal identifiable information and sell it to the highest bidder. Opticom has started to offer better protection and services to help protect your data at a reasonable rate. This video is the revised version of the film, video that has  received notes for revision. One of the changes I would like to make is the extra b-roll footage that I created to show that Opticom is Pittsburgh based. This is also one of the first projects that I created a lot of animated footage in After Effects. While the animations are simple, they’re used to give a visual description of what Dan, the COO of Opticom, explains about Cyber Resilience. There are also some color balances I’d like to review again before the revision. This video will be shared with Opticom Consulting as part of their online series to advertise their new service that they offer. The best part of the video in my opinion is the short animations that I created in After Effects, I didn’t think I was advanced enough to create such animations, but I am happy with the overall result of the simple animations. When I do this project again, I want to clean up the b-roll footage of the car driving in the city to have a better flow in the video and create smoother
